Dear Member Groups & FTLA friends,

It is with sadness that the Farm Tree & Landcare Associations recognises the passing of Joan Kirner, who among her many achievements, can count the founding of Landcare among them.

Without Joan Kirner’s innovation and willingness to reach out to beyond political affiliations to Heather Mitchell then Victorian Farmers Federation president, to bring the community with her and focus on solutions, the international movement that Landcare has become would not have been a reality. In 2014 Joan said that “Landcare was built on sustainability. It’s now national and international. And it’s based on community ownership of community change principle. I’m very proud of Landcare.” The principles of local action, practical solutions, and working together are her legacy and still guide Landcare today.

Our deep condolences to her family, friends and the many many people whose lives she touched for the better.

A reminder to Landcare members that the last Sunday working bee for the
current season is at the Tennyson St willow removal site from 9 am until 12pm on Sunday, 24 May.

The two main tasks are to whipper snip the previously planted
area beside the creek in preparation for Spring top-up plantings and
secondly to continue our ongoing removal of redundant plant guards from
nearby older plantings.

A brushcutter, gloves and a sharp knife are useful
tools to bring along plus personal eye and ear protection. The tool trailer
will be onsite and morning tea will be provided.

Parking is at the south end
of Tennyson St adjacent to Five Mile Creek reserve.
