Slatey Creek Reserve Working Bee

This month’s working bee will be held at Slatey Creek Reserve on Sunday the 25th of September from 9.30am till 1.00pm.
There is plenty to do and everyone is welcome to attend. The range of tasks include cutting and painting of seedling plum trees and other woody weeds, pick up and burn the heads of recently fallen trees, a clean up of any roadside litter, maintenance of plant guards and pruning back of regrowth under the power line.
Slatey Creek Reserve is 1.4km along Ashbourne Road from the traffic lights. Morning tea is provided.

Our bees and work group

Our last bee was with the Woodend Scouts on an overcast day. They all mucked in
and did a great job clearing blackberry thickets and fallen trees from their special location.
We especially loved the bonfire and took the opportunity to warm ourselves
by it.

Thursday’s work crew now have as many as 12 blokes sharing the work. They have begun  to look for new fields to conquer, as their early efforts have had such good results, that only general maintenance is now needed. They have spent several mornings cleaning up a patch of woody weeds around the Jeffreys St bridge, on the northern side of the Creek. They have also helped Brian Christie in clearing the area of Urquhart St below the ‘No Through Road’ sign. A grant we received will enable this project to continue and expand.

The next bee will be on June 26th at Wood St.

Sunday Working Bee

Our two attempts a working bees this month have both been washed out – what an extraordinary summer! However the forecast for next Sunday is OK (at this stage!), so we hope to see as many of you as possible, even if you can only spare a short time. All contributions gratefully received!
Wear appropriate clothing please. That means long trousers and sturdy shoes and boots. Don’t forget, there have been many warnings about snakes this season.
We’ll be by the Creek, below the Southern end of Tennyson St, commencing at 9.30. and going until we stop.
Please click the reply button and tell us either “yes” or “no”, or you may miss out on morning tea – it’s as easy as that to reply!!!
Allbest, and looking forward to seeing many of you next Sunday.
Thanks, Jo
